Sex and the Clueless

Yesterday's newspaper headline was "Sex and the Clueless: Young Malaysians in the dark over 'facts of life'''. At first i was reluctant to read the article as i felt that the issue had been ongoing for so many years, and yet still they remain 'clueless'. So i thought, i shud just give a damn about it.In a way, i hate to talk about the issue because it's a 'bit' sensitive (in my opinion lah)..but now i think it's about time for me to give away my thought. The article was about a research on teenage and young adults about HIV/AIDS,sexually transmitted diseass, contraceptives and reproductive organs.
...Hell yeah..i dont know how to respond to this, but as a medical student, i only learned those subjects when i am in medical school and (not in secondary school)!! I learned thoroughly about the repro organs when in 2'nd year during anatomy lesson. And it was great for me to 'discover' myself at that time. And what made me laughed was that some of the question was on respondent's' knowledge on uterus, vagina, testis and penis.I noticed that theres is no ovary (and breast).HAHA..the reproductive organ not complete there! Clearly they're just focusing on organs that involve in sexual intercourse and 'where babies develop'.
My point is that..im not saying its unacceptable to focus on this issue, but what i am feeling here is that,as if religion has play no role here. Why i said so? Simply because i havent heard of anybody talking about the importance of religion in tackling this issue! And it really hurt me deep inside. What are they afraid of? Every religion are against premarital sex, arent they? (correct me if im wrong please). Or are they being secular? Trying to put religion aside, and wordly matters the other side. Cant they see that its all inter-related? Verily the believers are those who protect themselves and their private part against wrongdoings.
Now let me share my experience when i was in secondary school. It's true, we lacked knowledge on the repro organs. My peers even say baby came out from anus. Funny isnt it. Despite that, we all knew that socialising among boys n girls are wrong, we all knew that watching/talking about pornography is sin. Because we never taught to do so from our parents.OUR PARENTS played a very very important role here. As for me, i dont give a damn about my frens who flirt around, because i was busy focusing on my studies and i know my responsibility to do so. And who taught me that? MY PARENTS. And to some of my frens, they tripped. they failed in their studies, their family dont give a damn about them, and finally get involve with frens who mixed around (freedom konon) and yes, some got pregnant. See how it goes?
I think our major concern rite now is on teenage having unprotected sex (i hate that word,i prefer illegal sex (legal is only after marriage)). But what happened nowadays is that, most parents dont know about what they do,who they frens are, where they go. One real life proof is this: when 'sure heboh' comes, the teenage go there until midnite, and stay with their frens, and their parents (me too am confused wether they let this happen or they simply dont know due to ignorance). What happen 2-3 months later, the hospitals full with teenage pregnancy!!
And i really salute if they know a lot about contraceptives. I only learned that during 3rd year (23 years old mind you). And what's funny, one of the risk factor to get cervical cancer is the usage of contraceptive (oral pills). Cervical cancer is related to early intercourse and multiple partners and many more. Surprised? Of course. But its not directly the causal factor. It's INDIRECTLY. When they know how to protect themselves againt sexual transmitted dz and pregnancy, its like a license for them to do it more! THERE U GO. Now, to what extent is this knowledge on sex taught in school? And most importanly, are there any monitoring/follow-ups?
Before i'm done..i wud like to quote one of my professor. He asked us during teaching one day. He asked to one of the student (a girl). 'Boleh x enkorang suke2 hati je masukkan bende dlm vagina korang?' : I interpreted 'bende' as anything including penis. I laughed inside, and at the same time syukur he did not asked me. Because im not sure how to respond to it. Haha..and that girl too. She just laughed. And then he answered: 'Bolehlah. Kalau korang tu BENGAP,BODO,BAHLUL,APE TOLOL SUME. I think i got the message...do you??
